Join artist Tomara Garrod and bookbinder and founder of Bōk Bindery Sam Petherbridge, for a programme of 3 evening workshops dedicated to explorations of queer storytelling and bookmaking.
The collaborative relationship between writing and bookbinding is as old as the first books, and has been revived by modern zine culture. These workshops will introduce you to both creative practices in order to harness the creative potential of each. Participants who attend all 3 will leave having hand-bound a marbled anthology of their and other participants’ work.
Queer storytelling with Tomara Garrod
July 21st
7-9pm
In the first workshop of this series, you will produce the stories that will eventually be bound into the anthology. Participants will be free to write in whichever style they choose, as an exercise in queering literary form. We will ask, What makes a story queer? - exploring the use of character, setting and plot to queer narratives. QUEERCIRCLE’s own spaces and exhibitions will act as starting points, stimulus for us to reflect on and respond to.
