Black Venus works at the intersection of creative practice and politics. Her artistry is an exploration of the role of sensuality and strength in performance, education and community building. Deeply informed by her experiences as Black/mixed-race queer woman, her background in sex work gives her a unique insight into the lived experience of some of the most vulnerable members of society, an element that she explores consistently through her work. A martial artist with over twenty years experience, Black Venus uses self defence as a tool to support and inspire people from within her community. Surrounded by Buddhism and therapeutic practices from a young age, she strives to integrate her lived experience into her work - through performance, poetry and facilitation.
