• Gathering with Palestine unites 15+ organisations committed to joining and contributing to the mass movement for Palestinian national liberation.

  •

Whilst institutions celebrate the presentation of historical civic and artist revolt when it is safe to do so, the sector has yet to - but must - contend with the most urgent matters of our time as they are unfolding. In part, our role is to support artists and our communities in their response to such matters whilst providing space for our communities to gather, discuss and debate.

But in the face of racist settler violence, occupation and apartheid, passivity is not an option. We must move beyond representational politics and understand our role - and complicity -  in such violence. We too must actively advance and contribute to the calls for solidarity. As a queer arts organisation, we draw on the deep history of art and culture in our movement and continue the tradition of resistance art as a necessary tactic for collective liberation.

Taking an intersectional and systemic approach, we invite our community and partners to join us for a programme of teach-ins, discussions and workshops centering Palestinian voices. Prioritising the social aspect of movement building, each session we’ll convene over food to reflect, exchange and connect to situate Palestine among wider global justice movements. Collectively we’ll build practical transferable knowledge, resources and actions that contribute to supportive, relational  infrastructures; and a future for Palestinians built on liberation and justice.

  • Community Guidelines

We convene here together from diverse backgrounds, cultures, traditions, and political experiences with the shared objective of advancing the struggle for Palestine. We ask all participants help us to create and maintain the space for a respectful discussion, exchange, and collaboration, by keeping the following principles in mind:

    • Prepare yourself before attending. Have you slept and eaten well? Do you have someone to talk to afterwards?

    • Please do your best to arrive on time for sessions, and be fully present.

    • Please let our team know if you are attending alone and would like to be introduced to others,

    • Assume the best intent and stay open-minded in any conversation, keeping in mind the diversity of experience and opinions of the participants.

    • Respect the religious and cultural obligations of any participant, and if you are unsure of any cultural or religious boundaries that some adhere to, ask. A dedicated space is available for those observing prayer.

    • If you feel overwhelmed at any point during an event our library is available as a quiet breakout space. Please let a member of our team know whether you would like to be accompanied or need additional support.

    • We do not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, islamophobia, antisemitism, or any other form of discrimination.

  • TEACH-INS

  • Makan is a Palestinian led educational organisation dedicated to facilitating transformative learning experiences centred around Palestinian and intersectional issues through workshops, partnerships, and accessible online resources. Makan strives to provide a perspective that captures the history of the Palestinian struggle for liberation and the realities on the ground. Our aim is to support advocates as part of a community that is not only well-informed, interconnected, and empowered but also passionately committed to cultivating a future for Palestinians built on liberation and justice.
  • DISCUSSIONS

  • Our Sunday Sessions provide safe, social spaces for discussion on four pressing topics over eight weeks. We invite you to join us for traditional breakfast from 11, with talks beginning at noon and group discussions unfolding from one. We aim to foster an open exchange of ideas, experiences and tactics - a chance to contribute to our community generated strategy for the future. A quiet space will also be provided in our library, with welfare support on hand.
