  • MAKE TIME

We value the idea of everyday creativity, not just ‘high art’ - and believe that everyone has intrinsic skills and potential to express themselves through creative making. QUEERCIRCLE offers weekly free workshops where people can meet over a diverse range of making and craft activities - be that through sewing, working with clay, collage or zine-making.

We work with partner organisations to deliver our Make Time programme, a variety of groups such as SketchSesh (fashion drawing), Riposte (creativity out-of-club night settings) and Protest Props (fabricators for direct action). Between them, these partners all provide regular, free space where people can try out new things and make new friendships in an informal settings that are not solely-based around alcohol (as the commercial scene often dictates).  We have commissioned research into what the value of craft and making are to LGBTQ+ communities, to test ‘what else making does, apart from making’ with findings soon to be made public
    • Riposte

      Riposte

Riposte is a monthly underground queer art rave based in London championing established and emerging Djs with a focus on techno music. Riposte hosts ephemeral exhibitions in the club scene showcasing multidisciplinary artists part of the LGBTQIA+ community (and sometimes allies). For these workshops, Riposte looks to develop bonds and relationships outside of the club setting and have curated a series that encourages collaboration and communication through craft and practical activity. From mushroom foraging to mask making, we’re excited to welcome our participants into our wonderfully diverse workshops led by some incredible queer practitioners.

      sketchsesh

These exciting and ambitious workshops are conceived and delivered by James Davison alongside guest artists and designers who have experience of working and teaching in the field of experimental art and fashion. They allow participants to step into the world of fashion illustration through drawing and collage. You are invited to create your own line-up of fashion looks, on diverse bodies, using a variety of mixed-media.

    • Protest Props

      Protest Props

Protest Props is a collective committed to using crafts and tools to dismantle oppressive structures. Amidst a heightened political climate and street demonstrations, their Make Time sessions aim to empower you with new skills in prop-making and ‘discover the art of banner making, design eye-catching placards, and master the art of stenciling’. In the past, Protest Props has left a creative mark on significant events. From crafting a giant piñata of Margaret Thatcher for the George Michael celebration to calling out BP's controversial partnerships in major institutions using arts, crafts, and activism, their powerful work is witty and crafted for maximum impact.
