ABOUT
Following an open call asking artists to respond to bell hooks’ quote “There can be no love without justice,” LGBTQ+ artists were invited to submit work that raises public awareness and demands for radical change.
The selected artists are London-based documentary photographer Bex Wade, South African multidisciplinary artist Kgotlelelo Bradley Sekiti and North Yorkshire-based print and micropublishing platform Black Lodge Press.
This past year has highlighted the desperate need for protest. Black Lives Matter, the climate emergency, trans rights, and a call to free Palestine are just some of the issues that have sparked demonstrations and raised public consciousness around the world.
As Pride month has come to an end, it is imperative to maintain the momentum of Pride and continue to raise awareness around these issues all-year round. By platforming and exhibiting LGBTQ+ artists in a street-level setting, we are able to confront the general public with these intersectional and international issues and call on audiences to consider, contemplate and take direct action.
