Ariel is a queer African American originally from Florida who joined Queercircle as our Programmes assistant in February 2023.
Ariel is a multidisciplinary artist and researcher focused on reinterpreting hidden histories through a queer feminist lens. From their community work within prison reform, for Florida’s Prison Education Project, to project leading with Melanin Skate Gals & Pals and teaching BPOC youth how to skateboard, Ariel is dedicated to the work of positive social change for marginalized communities. Ariel is also a part of the Unearthed Collective with Studio Voltaire, where she is helping dig up lost histories of queer and BPOC people in Clapham. Working with Queering Shelter, Ariel has created programmes for the LGBTQIA+ community to wrestle with the complexities of building and finding safe homes, teaching them how to express their frustrations through poetry, creative writing and craft.
In their spare time you can find Ariel tucked under a book, crocheting or planning their escape from capitalism. We are so happy to have her on!
