    Job title: Communications Lead 

    Employer: QUEERCIRCLE: B4, 3 Barton Yard, Soames Walk, London, SE10 0BN

    Reporting to: Managing Director 

    Hours: 2 days a week 

    QUEERCIRCLE’s office hours are: Tue - Friday, 10:00 - 18:00 

    Some evening work will be required, compensated by time off in lieu. 

    Start date: By October 2024 

    Contract: Permanent with 3 months’ probation 

    Salary: £32,000 pro rata (based on four day working week)

    PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

    This role is responsible for QUEERCIRCLE’s brand and communications strategy. It supports QUEERCIRCLE’s organisational objectives by communicating its work, research and opportunities for involvement in its programmes to a range of audiences in an engaging and informative way. 

  • MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Develop and deliver QUEERCIRCLE’s communications strategy to proactively promote its programmes and distributing research; growing audiences, deepening engagement, and building and maintaining QUEERCIRCLE’s reputation.

    • Promote the organisation’s public programmes, news, and opportunities to target audiences via listings, paid advertising, cross marketing opportunities, email marketing, and its social media platforms. 

    • Propose and deliver engaging content for QUEERCIRCLE’s website and social media platforms that will give insight into the organisations activities — working with the team and partners and engaging and managing freelance writers and producers where appropriate. 

    • Seek out press coverage for the organisation, its activities, and research. Manage press campaigns, including writing and distributing press releases; setting up interviews, organising and running press events; responding to requests; filing and sharing coverage; and updating and expanding press lists. 

    • Plan, manage, share, and appropriately archive the documentation of QUEERCIRCLEs activities, including the internal activities of the partners, as well as public and private and events — engaging and managing freelance photographers and videographers where appropriate. 

    • Manage and produce on-site public communications, including wall vinyls for exhibitions and seasonal vinyls that list our residents and supporters. 

    • Produce various print materials, including exhibition handouts, posters, fundraising brochures, and business cards for team. - Produce a range of digital design outputs as required by the team, including e-vites for public and private events, formatted presentations, and typeset documents. 

    • Ensure all communications outputs are delivered at the highest quality and are consistent with QUEERCIRCLE’s overarching visual identity, voice, and values. 

    • Closely follow developments in the communications landscape, ensuring best practice is maintained and new opportunities harnessed. 

    • Monitor and update the organisation’s communications policies and protocols. Support the team in adhering to these. 

    • Proactively identify and mitigate communications and reputational risks relating to QUEERCIRCLE. Support the Director to prepare for and manage the handling of crises. 

    • Contribute to proposals and grant applications, collecting and providing data on on-site and digital audiences. 

    • Represent QUEERCIRCLE at events, attending out of office hours and/or offsite locations as required. 

    • Work closely and collaboratively with the Digital Lead and other members of QUEERCIRCLE’s team to achieve all the above.

  • PERSON SPECIFICATION 

    • Essential - 4+ years of previous experience working in an institutional context and in marketing/communications, and audience development 

    • Experience of managing web and digital content, working with Content Management Systems and social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, TikTok)

    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including editing and proofreading - Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (particularly Photoshop and InDesign) 

    • Ability to multi-task, delegate and prioritise within a busy working environment 

    • Ability to work independently, take initiative and be resourceful - Have the right-to-work in the UK Desirable - Experience of working in a visual arts organisation 

    • Track record of producing high quality digital content 

    • Proficient in more than one language desirable
